Exploration #6e2: Clip Art & Image Collections It is often helpful to have images and/or clipart to support lessons in the elementary classroom. The following sites offer access to thousands of educationally appropriate graphics which you can use in the classroom. Hint: You can easily download any images that you find on the web. if you do not already know how to do that, click here for a step-by-step tutorial. The tutorial will open in a new window. Print the page for future reference and close the window to return to this page.
Most of the popular search engines provide image searching capabilities. However, as you may have noticed, sometimes inappropriate images are found in the search results. Google Image Search offers some filtering options that can minimize this issue and is recommended for classroom related image searching. Before you search for images on Google, you will want to check that the "SafeSearch" filterning is turned on. Click on Advanced Image Search link to the right of the search box and scroll down the page until you see the SafeSearch settings. Select Filter Explicit Results and then enter your search keywords in the boxes above. Adjust the other search options (size, colors, type, etc.) and click the Advanced Search button at the bottom of the page when you are done. This takes a bit longer than a simple image search but will mimize the chances that you will find inappropriate images when using Google Image Search. Record your general observations on these Clip Art and Image Collections sites in your logbook. Make note of the sites you will be most likely to use in future.
