Web Indexes: Yahoo! There used to be dozens of web indexes available on the web. These sites offered access to huge collections of webpages that had been reviewed before being included in the web index. Yahoo, for example, began as a pure web index in the early days of the world wide web. It later added web search engine capabilities and became a hybrid search engine that combined results from its large index with results pulled from web search engines. It appears that as Yahoo continues to "reinvent" itself, searching for new ways to compete with Google, it is phasing out its web index. I am personally disappointed to see this site disappear as it used to be an excellent source of educationally relevant information. You can see what Yahoo used to look like back in its heyday by going to the Internet Archive's Wayback Maching and typing http:/www.yahoo.com in the search box. A screen with thousands of archived screen captures from Yahoo's history will appear. Clicking on several of dates displayed will let you see Yahoo in its former state(s). Internet Archive Wayback Machine Enough nostalgia... Let's move on to a web index that is still actively maintained and relevant for educators
