Resizing Web Browser Windows

Your computer will most likely open the web browser in a full screen mode where the browser window fills the entire screen. Throughout the course, you will often be managing multiple web browser windows so it will be necessary to know how to resize the browser window. You can resize the browser window by clicking in the bottom right hand corner of the window and, while holding the mouse button, dragging the corner upwards and to the left. You can reposition the browser on the screen by placing the cursor in the title bar (blue or striped bar at the top of the browser window) and holding down the mouse button while you move the browser window.

Important Note: It is recommended that you always resize your web browser windows to less than full-screen size when using the course website. You can use the logo at the top of the screen for a reference point. If you resize the browser window to a width no wider than the logo, there should be room on the screen for other browser windows.

Multiple Web Browser Windows

Many of the links on the course webpages are set to open in a new browser window. This will allow you to view the linked webpage without losing your place in the course introduction or assignment webpages.

It is likely that the new webpage will open directly on top of the current webpage. If you position the cursor in the title bar of the webpage (the blue or striped bar at the top of the webpage) and hold down the mouse button, you can drag the window off to the side a bit to allow you to see part of the screen beneath the active window on top.

When you are finished exploring the linked webpage, just click the close box (located in the upper left hand corner of the browser window on a Mac and in the upper right hand corner on a PC) to close the new window and return to the original course webpage.

Managing Simultaneous Web Browser Windows

You can move easily between the multiple web browser windows by clicking on any exposed portions of the window to bring it to the front of the screen.

Practice Makes Perfect!

Practice the procedures described above until you feel comfortable with resizing the browser windows, opening multiple browser windows, and moving between multiple open browser windows.

Here is a link that will open this webpage in a new browser window so you can practice the procedures.
